How WFP is helping people in the midst of a humanitarian crisis in Ethiopia, driven by conflict and severe drought. Ethiopia has made important development gains over the past two decades, reducing poverty and expanding investments in basic social services.

WFP is rolling out resilience-building activities to help communities to prepare and protect their livelihoods in the drought-risk Oromia, Somali and Southern regions. Support will target over 200,000 people with cash assistance, and nearly 300,000 with livestock feed vouchers.

Ethiopia has registered strong social and economic development in recent years, leading to important progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 2 (zero hunger). Rates of wasting, stunting and underweight have fallen significantly.

WFP offers nutrition support to the most vulnerable Ethiopians including pregnant women, nursing mothers and children under 5. WFP provides food and cash to the most vulnerable families. Stocks of food are prepositioned in case of conflict or climate shocks.
