Richard in Ohio writes … Coach Kalen DeBoer better not be going anywhere. He’s a fine head coach and one of the most brilliant offensive minds in the game. We’re fortunate to have him. Alabama has the talent and the coaching skill it needs on the payroll already — it just isn’t properly deployed to be a national contender.

DeBoer took the Alabama job to be The Guy After The Guy, inviting the comparisons to the greatest college football coach of all time, and he was always going to be raked over the coals by fans whenever his first loss came. But his first loss wasn’t supposed to be this, a setback arguably worse than any loss Saban suffered with the Tide.

What made the win that much sweeter for Vandy fans was how the stadium’s jumbotron trolled Alabama coaching great Nick Saban after the upset. The Vanderbilt jumbotron played a clip from ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show where Saban issued a pretty direct diss to the atmosphere at Vandy’s FirstBank Stadium for opposing teams.
