Lake-effect snow - triggered by a cold-air system flowing over the relatively warmer waters of Lake Michigan - sent more than 7 inches of snow piling up in Holland and some surrounding areas. The snow map issued today by the National Weather Service gives a good overview of the snow totals across the Lower Peninsula.

The west side of the state will see the brunt of a winter storm moving into Michigan this morning, but most of the Lower Peninsula will be affected.

Most parts of the state will see one or two inches of snow on Saturday, but areas more to the west and south could see higher totals.

The Richmond area remains on track to get around 3 to 5 inches of snow late Friday into early Saturday, according to the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Wakefield.
