Ohio State and Notre Dame are facing off in the first 12-team College Football Playoff national championship game Monday in Atlanta. The Buckeyes and Fighting Irish don’t have a notably long football history playing against each other, but the last time they did, it was an awfully memorable ending. Emphasis on awfully.

The teams in Monday’s national championship game rely on high school recruits, and have mined the NCAA transfer portal selectively.

For Ohio State, Ed Terwilliger, the Director of High School Relations, and a few other staff have been out on the trail keeping tabs on the 2026, 2027 and 2028 classes. Earlier in the month, despite position coaches not being on the road, a myriad of offers went out to a handful of prospects.
