The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved a staggering $4 billion payout to settle sexual abuse claims made by more than 7,000 victims. The abuse claims date back to 1959, with the majority happening at foster care and Department of Probation facilities.

Los Angeles County will pay out $4 billion in settlements to victims of sexual abuse in its juvenile facilities after the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved the largest such payout in U.

The settlement includes nearly 7,000 claims, most of which involve alleged abuse from the 1980s through the 2000s.
