Nobel Prize in physics awarded for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning and artificial neural networks.

U.S. scientist John Hopfield and British-Canadian colleague Geoffrey Hinton won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics for discoveries and inventions that laid the foundation for machine learning, the award-giving body said on Tuesday.

Two scientists who used physics to help develop methods used to build modern machine learning were honored with the 2024 Nobel Prize in the field.
