One of the oldest Capitol rioters has turned down a pardon issued by President Donald Trump to some 1,500 convicts in the Jan. 6 insurrection. Pamela Hemphill, 71, said she no longer wanted to participate in efforts to “rewrite history.

She was at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. She pleaded guilty. Now, she doesn’t want President Donald Trump’s pardon because she wants to own what she did.

Trump’s action, just hours after his return to the White House on Monday, paves the way for the release from prison of people found guilty of violent attacks on police, as well as leaders of far-right extremist groups convicted of failed plots to keep the Republican in power after he lost the 2020 presidential election to Biden.

Known as the “MAGA Granny,” Pamela Hemphill was sentenced to 60 days in prison after pleading guilty to participating in the siege.
