Wichita had 5.9 inches of snow fall on Thursday, bringing the January total up to 9.5 inches, according to National Weather Service data. That amount, as measured at the Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport, already ties for the 12th snowiest January on records dating back to 1888.

As much as 10.5 inches of snow fell late Thursday and early Friday in Kansas, the National Weather Service said.

According to the National Weather Service, the highest snowfall amounts were reported in Olathe and Shawnee, while the lowest were in Leavenworth, Prairie Village, Weatherby Lake, Platte Woods and Oakview.

Parts of Kansas were blanketed with another round of snow this week shortly after a previous blizzard hit the state last Sunday. 27 News checked with the National Weather Service (NWS) to learn how much snow fell in different parts of the state on the night of Jan.

Kansas City International Airport, for example, has an 85% chance of snowfall exceeding .1 of an inch, according to data from the weather service. The probability of higher snowfall totals drops rapidly, with only a 50% chance of snowfall exceeding 1 inch. The chance of 2 inches or more of snow is less than 10%.
