WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Honda is recalling 1.7 million cars and SUVs in the United States over an issue that can make steering more difficult and increase the risk of a crash.

On Wednesday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Honda will be recalling around 1.7 million vehicles in the U.S. after finding that the steering gearbox assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly.

Honda Motor Co. (NYSE:HMC) disclosed on Wednesday that it recalled 1,693,199 vehicles due to increased friction between the worm gear and worm wheel that can increase steering effort and difficulty, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Honda is recalling about 1.7 million vehicles in the U.S. as difficulty in steering can increase the risk of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Wednesday.
